James Cameron Over Trilogies, Announces A Fourth ‘Avatar’ Sequel
“Dances with Wolves”“Pocahontas”“FernGully” “Avatar” is set to receive four sequels, according to creator James Cameron.
The “Titanic” director announced the expansion of the franchise at CinemaCon on Thursday. He confirmed his plans to release four new “Avatar” movies over the course of the next seven years with each installment intended to debut around Christmas of 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
We’re counting the days until the release of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” (45 more!), but the U.K. trailer for this summer’s next superhero movie is missing one thing: super sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. No Blue Swede? No “Spirit In the Sky”? Ooga-chaka, indeed.
Following a bunch of warm-up press materials, Disney has released the full trailer for August’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” It’s pretty much the best. The Marvel film, which stars Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana plus the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, is out on Aug. 1.
Marvel has debuted the first official trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the upcoming sci-fi super-hero adventure starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly and the voices of Bradley Cooper (as Rocket Raccoon) and Vin Diesel (as Groot, an alien tree). The James Gunn film looks like one of Marvel’s funniest features to date thanks to Pratt’s comic timing and a geeky sensibility that knows just how to rock Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling.” The second of two 2014 Marvel blockbusters, following April’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” arrives in theaters on Aug. 1. It’s back to Pandora for Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, who are set to reprise their roles in all three of the forthcoming “Avatar” sequels, Fox announced Tuesday. Production on James Cameron’s sci-fi films is set to begin later this year, with all three movies being shot back-to-back, a la Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” series. (Like Jackson’s movies, the new “Avatar” trilogy will film in New Zealand.) “Avatar 2” is slated to arrive December 2016, with the third installment opening in December 2017 and the fourth in December 2018.
First Na’vi now Satan! “Avatar’s” Zoe Saldana has been cast as Rosemary in NBC’s version of “Rosemary’s Baby.” Entertainment Weekly reports that Saldana has been cast in the upcoming four-hour adaptation of Ira Levin’s 1967 novel.
